Coldplay is a British alternative rock band formed in London, England in 1998. The group comprises vocalist/
pianist/guitarist Chris Martin, lead guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, and drummer/multi-
instrumentalist Will Champion.
Their 2011 current world tour began in June and covered the biggest summer festivals in western Europe including
Rock am Ring and Glastonbury, then moving on to Asia, Australia, North and South America, and South Africa.
With such a rigorous outdoor festival schedule, W-DMX™ was employed to save time, money and headaches, as
well as increasing safety for festival-goers.
W-DMX™ ran 4 entire Universes using 4 BlackBox F-1 G4 transmitters and 4 BlackBox R-512 G4 receivers. The
wireless control was used both on the stage as well as audience lighting. The festival circuit was rigorous, so the
rugged BlackBox construction was important. Equipment was supplied by A.C.T. Lighting.
Control was located up to 200 metres away from Front of house to receivers with up to 30,000 people in
attendance and the lighting team never encountered any problems with interference.
